Among the dead was a father along with his three-year-old child and wife, who was pregnant. The baby was saved, said the Kuwaiti Hospital.
The strikes followed one on the city the previous night that killed nine people, including six children. Rafah has suffered near daily air raids but Israel plans to defy Western warnings and launch a ground invasion too.

Amid the escalating violence in Gaza, the Jewish Council of Australia (JCA) has again called on state and federal governments to cut all military ties and to apply sanctions to Israel, as it did after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Sarah Schwartz, human rights lawyer and JCA Executive, said on April 2 that images of Israel’s destruction of Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, together with the killing of aid workers, including Lalzawmi “Zomi” Frankcom from Australia “ought to force governments like ours to take concrete action”.
Schwartz said the world cannot ignore “such horrific cruelty”.
“Australia must end its role in supplying weapons parts to Israel, and throw its weight behind a global arms embargo.”
Dr Max Kaiser, historian and JCA Executive Officer, said it has become clearer for many that “Israel is a rogue state”.
“We say this as part of a large and growing number of Jews — in Australia and around the world — who have been calling for a ceasefire for many months.”

Six months after October 7, a lament for the paths not chosen

Catastrophe and failure
I belong to a small, left-wing, Jewish-Palestinian camp in Israel that has opposed this war from day one for a myriad of reasons. Not because we are indifferent to the massacres carried out by Hamas and other Palestinian militants on October 7, but because we believe there are other choices we can and should take in response. Half a year on, it is abundantly clear that, for Palestinians, this war has been a catastrophe on a scale equal to or even greater than the 1948 Nakba. For Israelis, it has been a total failure even on their own terms.
Israel’s onslaught has killed more than 33,000 Palestinians, and at least another 8,000 are missing and presumed dead under the rubble. That is almost two percent of the Gaza Strip’s population slaughtered, most of them civilians, over a third of them children. We also know that the Israeli military willingly harms civilians — as Gazans themselves have recounted to us, and as our colleague Yuval Abraham further showed in his investigations for +972 and Local Call.....

The Palestinian - Israel conflict and its roots have been going on for over a century. For over 75 years Israel has been continuously violently militarily attacked. Iran just last week sent countless bombs and missiles to Israel to destroy Israel and kill Israelis. After a century of being targeted Israelis are continuing to act in self defence against the continued violent attempt to militarily destroy Israel. Hopefully very soon this can all end whereby a political solution is established whereby Palestinians and Israelis can live side by side in permanent peace.

How European nationalism and Zionism crushed the Arab-Jewish alliance
The Israeli government — and much of Western media — want you to believe that Israel's war on Gaza is being waged in the name of Western civilisation.
Israel is on the front line against the unwashed masses of the Global South, they say. Palestinians are barbarians who must be crushed.
This racist, colonial logic is trotted out again and again to justify Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people as part of the collective 'civilisational' project of the West. But it wasn't so long ago that Judaism was excluded from so-called Western civilisation.
For most of history, Jews in Europe and the Middle East have been the victims of Western imperialism rather than its stormtroopers. The story of how this came to be — and how it might have been otherwise — provides insight into the ideological dynamics at play in Palestine today.....

The 1950-1951 bombings of Jewish neighbourhoods in Baghdad were widely believed by Iraqi Jews to have been orchestrated by Israeli forces in order to facilitate Jewish migration to Israel.
A few years later, in the 1954 Lavon Affair, Israel recruited several Egyptian Jews to plant bombs in Jewish and American targets, with the intent of both encouraging Jewish migration to Israel and undermining the increasingly anti-imperial Nasser regime.
In the trial of the operatives, state prosecutor Fu’ad al-Digwi admonished the attempt to divide Egyptians across religious lines, stating that “the Jews of Egypt are living among us and are sons of Egypt. Egypt makes no difference between its sons whether Muslims, Christians, or Jews.” That vision of Egypt ultimately proved irreconcilable with the ethnonationalism underpinning European colonialism and Zionism.....
