Freedom - fantastic colour and visual energy throughout, adorable token white girl, all in fun.
..just heard about this band when they cancelled their gig in tel aviv. i like.
Big Thief: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
The power of Big Thief lies in the stunning voice of Adrianne Lenker — as well as the band's intense rhythms, the guitar playing of Buck Meek and, right, the lyrics. Come to think of it, everything this band does serves the muscular warmth of these brilliant songs, which are not only memorable, but meaningful.

Joan Armatrading - Weakness In Me
Joan Armatrading - Mama Mercy
Released on: 1977-01-01
Love Joan Armatrading and missed seeing her in concert when I was a teen on account of having a fight with my boyfriend and not wanting to join him and his siblings for the event. What an idiot.
I discovered an amazing talent when Rosanna Deerchild (CBC Unreserved) played a song by Toronto-based Julian Taylor called "Seeds". It was lovely and moving.
..this song is from an armatrading album i bought in '77. never got to see here live.
Seeds by Julian Taylor
Love the lyrics and the song in general. So lovely.
It kind of reminds me of Cat Stevens aka Yusuf Islam, a very good thing.
..yes. very nice.
dup post
..started watching bad sisters today and this was the 1st song that came up. love my bluegrass!
Oh, Death Ralph Stanley Traditional
Yes, that bluegrass number is wonderful. Thanks for looking up the songwriter, epaulo. In one of the episodes, the closing music is the same song used for the opening of "What We Do In the Shadows": You're Dead by Norma Tanega from her 1966 album Walkin' My Cat Named Dog.

..bad sisters seems to have a great soundtrack.
Excellent soundtrack. Now if you are a fan of late 80s and 90s music, the soundtrack for "Derry Girls" is fantastic.
References to the site"moonofalabama" caused me to listen to the version approved of by Kurt Weill;s family.
(note: It's very unlikely that Teresa Stratas really smoked.
While I'm apparently on a posting frenzy here, I like the whole album, "Stratas does Weill" A personal favourite is, ......

The HU - Mongolian Throat Singing - Song -Wolf Totem
That's great Susan, thanks. I saw a thing probably on PBS about Mongolian throat singing. More sophisticated tonality than the Inuit styles that I've heard.
..edit couldn't hear the vocals very well so got another video.
The HU - Wolf Totem
Ok, I'll say it. Looks like they replaced Roger Daltrey.
..i'm very drawn in by their throat singing. all classically trained musicians according to the intro.
The Hu perform Yuve Yuve Yu on BBC Radio 4 Loose Ends
yes.... so cool..... i am really drawn to these kinds of classical music styles in particular when they are used in a modern context.... I am a classical musician - piano, french horn, flute... i wrote my own music before opening my lil butcher shop - now i work everyday on both the organization i direct, at sex work and in my shop... not much time for art - when it was just sex work i had lot more time...lol
I also like them the way they were recorded... this one is from 1929 and is haunting, dark and beautiful.... Clarence Ashley - Dark Holler

or this Amish chanting.... this one was featued in the film "Lawless"

..nice susan. i remember quite well being to busy for art with my politics and work. it was only by the time i was 50 that i took up the djembe and expanded it to to various percussion instruments..including hang drum and balafon. more than 20 years later i still have a small hand drum and bongos in my lv room though i don't play much anymore.
cool!
by that i mean - cool that you are also a musician.... but it is sad that we no longer have time for art..... i am 54 and also have a piano which i never have time to play.....
..i have the time but no longer the motivation. i traveled for a while after retiring and busking was what i did to help pay for my stays. i don't want to travel anymore other than local stuff. so slowly lost the motivation to keep it up.
