This gangland style murder was just around the corner from chez moi, in what is usually a very quiet hood. In years past, there had been firebombings (rarely fatal), at Mafia-0wned cafés. I have no idea whether the Café Cubano (Cuban, obviously) has ties to organised crime or if they were just targeting a specific individual. Still gives one a bit of a chill.

Sorry about the murder so close to home. But let's maintain some perspective. You're less likely to get murdered in Montréal than just about anywhere else in Canada. And don't even get me started about the U.S.
We had a mafia hit in my neighbourhood a few years ago. The victim was sitting on the patio of a local cafe/gelateria when a dude dressed like a road worker walked up to the patio, shot him, and left.
I, too, live in Little Italy. Coincidence?
Perhaps not, but the cocaine pusher was of Greek origin and the café/bar is owned by Cubans.
And Unionist, I am well aware that Mtl is very safe in terms of violent crime (except, as everywhere, gang "settling of accounts" and so-called family violence). Very little violent crime in my hood; most crime is break-ins when people are at work and drug-related stuff which probably shouldn't even be illegal.
Café Cubano is very small and I don't think they even had cameras.
