Julian Assange's letter to King Charles III:

https://declassifieduk.org/a-kingly-proposal-letter-from-julian-assange-...

"Your Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh is located at the prestigious address of One Western Way, London, just a short foxhunt from the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. How delightful it must be to have such an esteemed establishment bear your name.

It is here that 687 of your loyal subjects are held, supporting the United Kingdom’s record as the nation with the largest prison population in Western Europe. As your noble government has recently declared, your kingdom is currently undergoing “the biggest expansion of prison places in over a century”, with its ambitious projections showing an increase of the prison population from 82,000 to 106,000 within the next four years. Quite the legacy, indeed.

As a political prisoner, held at Your Majesty’s pleasure on behalf of an embarrassed foreign sovereign, I am honoured to reside within the walls of this world class institution. Truly, your kingdom knows no bounds."

Chris Hedges: Julian Assange & World Press Freedom Day

"The detention and persecution of Julian Assange eviscerates all pretense of the rule of  law and the rights of a free press.

The illegalities embraced by the Ecuadorian, British, Swedish and US governments are ominous.

They presage an Orwellian dystopia where news is replaced with propaganda, trivia and entertainment.

The legal lynching of Julian, I fear, marks the official beginning of the corporate totalitarianism that will define our lives..."

"I view with concern the imminent possibility of the extradition of journalist Julian Assange. Assange has done an important job of denouncing illegitimate acts by one state against another. His arrest goes against the defense of democracy and freedom of the press. It is important that we all mobilize in their defense."

Unlikely in Canada where 'go along to get along' seems the order of the day. Anything on his behalf from Jagmeet yet?

Blinken's Denunciation of Assange Exposes Australian Government's Phony Posturing

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/08/05/dkas-a05.html

"Last weekend, Antony Blinken launched a full-throated denunciation of Julian Assange, whom the Biden administration is seeking to extradite and prosecute for exposing US-led war-crimes.

THe US secretary of state chose to make his first substantive comments on the WikiLeaks publisher, standing alongside Australian Foreign Minister Penny Way in Brisbane.

Blinken's comments and Way's acquiescence exposed the fraud that the Labor government is in any way seeking to free Assange, a persecuted Australian citizen and journalist.

Instead, Way and other government representatives unveiled far-reaching agreements for further US basing arrangements in the country and other measures aimed at preparing for war against China.

The determination to continue the frame-up is bound up with its broader significance. Amid an explosion of US militarism, including the proxy war against Russia in Ukraine and the drive to conflict with China, the US is using the Assange case to intimidate anti-war opposition across the board..."

It is only an allegation before conviction.

He decided to act as his own lawyer in the classified information trial, and the jury was not aware of the child pornography charges.

He called child pornography a "victimless crime". He was also charged with drugging and sexually assaulting his roommate.

He seems to not understand how plea deal offers work, since he was offered 10 years, and complained that when he turned it down the offer was no longer on the table after his conviction.

There is other information on him that wsws left out of their story, but it would seem that this is not some grand conspiracy, but the result of his own decision to not treat these charges with the seriousness they deserve. It wasn't the deep state that made him decide he was smarter than his lawyer.

Crocodile Tears Over Navalny While Ignoring Assange

"The entire political-media class are currently rending their garments about the prison-death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and are being joined by the propaganda-addled citizenry of the Western empire.

Meanwhile, Julian Assange's last-ditch effort to appeal against extradition to the United States is coming up in a few days with a tiny faction of the attention.

I really could not have a lower opinion of people who would rather talk about Navalny's persecution in a far-away country that they nothing to do with than Julian Assange being persecuted at the hands of their own government. It's the most pathetic, bootlicking behaviour imaginable..."

British High Court Hears Appeal in Julian Assange’s Likely Last Chance to Avoid Extradition

In London, a critical appeal for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is underway at the British High Court of Justice, in what could be Assange’s last chance to stop his extradition to the United States. Assange, who has been held in London’s Belmarsh Prison since 2019, was charged under the U.S. Espionage Act and faces a 175-year prison sentence for publishing classified documents exposing U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Julian’s wife Stella Assange has called the situation a matter of life and death. Before heading into court, Stella Assange addressed her husband’s supporters gathered outside for the two-day hearing.

Stella Assange: “There is no possibility of a fair trial if Julian is extradited to the United States. He should never be extradited to the United States. He would never be safe. The United States plotted to murder my husband. He is being accused of journalism. This case is an admission by the United States that they now criminalize investigative journalism. It’s an attack on all journalists all over the world. It’s an attack on the truth, and it’s an attack on the public’s right to know. Julian is a political prisoner, and his life is at risk. What happened to Navalny can happen to Julian. He has to be released. This farce has to end.”

Craig Murray: Assange Truth & UN Shenanigans

https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2024/03/assange-truth-and-un-she...

"I spent last week at the UN, trying to ram home some truths about the Assange case, as input to the UN's Periodic Review (every 7 years) and the UK's human rights record, in terms of its compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

I had a very short opportunity to address the UN Committee on Human Rights, which is a body of elected experts. In such a short time frame you have to go with just a couple of points.

I am open to criticism of my selection, but I maintain that this was much plainer speaking than is generally heard. The reasons for this are interesting.

Money talks in the UN itself too. The UN and Western powers contribute a very high proportion of the UN budget.

There is a reason why I attended a UN commemoration ceremony in Geneva for UN staff killed in Gaza, where none of the senior UN staff dared to mention who killed them.

Also of course the NATO powers and allies are disproportionately represented in key staff positions.

The UN Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, an Austrian, has been disgustingly pusillanimous on Gaza and has done nothing on Assange.

Staff are visibly afraid to take on on the UK/US interests..."

U.K. High Court Delays Possible Extradition of Julian Assange Until U.S. Provides “Assurances”

The High Court in London has put the extradition of Julian Assange on hold until the United States provides more assurances about how the WikiLeaks publisher will be treated in U.S. custody. The court asked the U.S. for assurances that Assange will be permitted to rely on the First Amendment, that he will not be discriminated against at trial because he is Australian, and that he will not face the death penalty. The court also ruled Assange may be able to file additional appeals to block the extradition, but that will depend on how the U.S. responds to the court’s request.

Assange has been held in London’s Belmarsh Prison for five years awaiting possible extradition to the United States, where he faces up to 175 years in prison for publishing classified documents exposing U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. We’ll have more on this after headlines.

Things were looking good a few weeks ago but seems now that the Biden administration is determined:

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2024/apr/16/us-provides-assurances-to-...

On Tuesday, details emerged of the assurances given by the US, which stated that he “will not be prejudiced by reason of his nationality with respect to which defences he may seek to raise at trial and at sentencing”.

It referred specifically to him having “the ability to raise and seek to rely upon” the first amendment but also said that its applicability “is exclusively within the purview of the US courts”. The assurances also state: “A sentence of death will neither be sought nor imposed on Assange.”

If Assange is denied permission to appeal, he faces being extradited to the US within days as he will have exhausted all of his legal avenues in the UK courts. His only hope would then be if the European court of human rights intervened.

"Broke the rules" by publishing the murderous crimes of the most
destructive regime on the planet.
The "rule" is the US's legalistic Omertà, the deadly mafioso "rule" of silence.

The US contrived "rules based order" has nothing to do with justice and everything to do with world oppression.
