Maybe they read DND reports.

I didn't see anything about politics in that report. Are we just assuming everyone in the military is right-wing?

I would not assume everyone in the military is right wing however I would definitely believe that a large majority are. The Comox election returns always show the right wing tilt to the military voters. The most reliable votes for Conservative in this Valley are the legion of retired air force personnel. Somehow many people from AFB's choose Comox to retire to and not Goose Bay or Cold Lake.

Cold Lake is nice area, I would potential retire there. Never been to Goose Bay, not sure what it is like.

kropotkin1951

The Comox Valley has become to expensive to retire to. Until ten years ago it was far cheaper than most areas in the province. In the last ten years the price of a house has tripled and while it is cooling off a bit it doesn't look like it will lose too much in value. Cold Lake houses are less than half of the price of a house in the Valley.

We are going to line the pockets of Lockheed Martin by buying long range stealth fighters that are designed as first strike weapons and are not particularly suitable for arctic conditions. NATO is emptying its armories to support Ukraine and it is us that will have to restock them.

Even if we got the right equipment at this point we have a major recruitment problem. Our integrated forces are minuscule and largely irrelevant if we went to war given we have less than 50,000 troops and we can't even recruit people to fill the spaces the military has available.

Hard to recruit when anyone darker than pale, and left of Bernier is considered 'suspicious'.

Bingo!

A Blind Spot in the Climate Movement's Agenda?

"As Yves Engler explains, Canada's military generates 59% of the federal government's emissions, but is excluded from the government's already very dubious plan for net zero. The military uses its vast PR resources to obscure these realities."

Pugliese: Canadian Special Forces Leaders Warned About 'Untouchable' Soldiers...

https://www.recorder.ca/news/national/defence-watch/canadian-special-for...

"Certain groups within Canadian Special Forces have emerged as 'untouchable' and protected from any punishment for their wrongdoing, members of the organization have warned their senior leaders.

Issues raised about JTF2 are largely censored from the reports obtained through the Access to Information law or limited in details. But information about other special forces units was highlighted in the documents.

Fear of reprisal for speaking out about wrongdoing or even mistakes in training was a consistent theme that emerged..."

This has been an ongoing issue for decades. I have purchased my own gear for a number of reasons.

Does the NDP really care?

Quote:

NDP defence critic MP Lindsay Mathyssen said it's deeply troubling that Canadian troops in Latvia are not equipped to do their jobs.

"Not only is it embarrassing that they are buying their own equipment in the first place, but it is problematic that soldiers aren't provided with adequate safety equipment so they don't experience long-term damage to their hearing," Mathyssen said in a media statement.

That is indeed a bitter pill to swallow.

He is yes. It's frustrating the Liberals are dumping billions in weapons and equipment on them and Canadian military members have to buy vehicle parts off ebay and at Canadian Tire out of their own pocket. Forget about relevant weapon systems.

As Canada's Navy Arrives in Japan, Tokyo Begins Largest Military Buildup Since Second World War

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/japan-defence-spending-1.6954658

"As Canada sends the warship HMCS Ottawa into the Pacific to counter the influence of China, the ship docks in the allied port of Yokosuka in Japan - a country going through its largest military buildup since the Second World War.

Were China to move militarily against Taiwan, US President Joe Biden has said the United States would intervene.

Other [stupid, subservient vassal] countries - including Canada - have stepped up their naval presence in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait.

'Canada is significantly increasing its military presence in the region to support a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific where international rules prevail,' Defence Minister Bill Blair said..."

Canadian Military Buying Armed Drones For $2.49 BILLION

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/armed-drone-canadian-armed-force-1.7063989

"...A fleet of MQ-9B Reaper drones, built by US defence contractor General Atomics, will be purchased in a $2.49 billion package, Liberal MPs announced Tuesday on behalf of Defence Minister Bill Blair.

'The Government of Canada is committed to providing the Canadian Armed Forces with the equipment they need to keep Canadians safe,' Blair said in a statement..."

But obviously not the housing or healthcare they need more. Canada itself is being transformed into nothing less than 'an armed drone' for American imperialism and war.

Canada should buy used tanks and armored fighting vehicles from israel. Those things are huge.

Think of all the soldiers we could crame in there to go fight climate disasters.

I understand they have excellent fire fighting capabilities.

kropotkin1951

I think we need to buy them them for the RCMP to fight the terrorists in Wet'suwet'en and Haudenesaunee. After all a settler state needs to protect itself. Israel is merely using traditional Canadian values in its relationship with Palestinians.

Sarcasm alert!!!

What if we bought some for the democratically elected Wet'suwet'en and Haudenesaunee chiefs, and some for the hereditary chiefs?

Unprecedented level of secrecy surrounds costs and work on $80B warship project

National Defence has brought in a new and unprecedented shroud of secrecy around a controversial warship project now estimated to cost taxpayers more than $80 billion.

After withholding documents for almost three years, the Department of National Defence has released nearly 1,700 pages of records that were supposed to outline specific costs and work done so far on the Canadian Surface Combatant program.

But all the details of what taxpayers have so far spent and what type of work has been done by Irving Shipbuilding for that money have been censored from the records.

“I pretty much got nearly 1,700 blank pages,” Ken Rubin said of the access to information request he filed to National Defence in April 2021 about the warship program. “I have never seen this level of secrecy or lack of accountability over a project that is costing so much.”......
