Don't be surprised if he turtles on you, too.

I suppose the next step is hockey players praying at centre ice following games, which is what they now do (upon astroturf, of course) following games at Taylor Field.

Humboldt hospital? Anything to do with tubal ligation?

Oh God, you're kidding me.

And yes.

This isn't helping me get any closer to embracing sport culture, I should let you know.

Fidel

Apparently he's insured against head shots himself after having had a brainectomy at Humboldt. Or something.

No sirree (and God's the other guy).  Members of both teams meet at the middle of the field after the games and pray together.  I don't know if they do that elsewhere in the CFL.

I've always wondered about athletes who pray after scoring a touchdown or cross themselves in the goal crease before a game.  Does God have nothing better to do than ensure that the Raiders beat the point spread?

I'm with Rebecca (cybernetically speaking for now, that is). Expansion was a 9-letter word - that's 2 1/4 times worse than a 4-letter word, for those of you who weren't born yet. I remember feeling that 6 teams were a tad too many to keep track of.

As for your comment, Fidel, I can't agree. In hockey, as in society, there are only two choices: 1) Dynasty; or 2) Die nasty. I'm pulling for #1!

Maybe our whole electoral system should be socialized.

The league is much more competitive now than before. And I think Bettman and company have done an excellent job in that department. I think many fans are excited about the prospects of their team having a fair shot at making the playoffs. Last year the eighth place Habs ended up making a pretty good cup run in spite of the oddsmakers betting against them. And we didn't have any Crosbys, Thorntons, even one Ovechkin, any Savards or Brieres just lunchpail players and grinders. It's proof that imposing league parity makes the game exiciting for more fans in more cities. Hockey is actually exciting to watch because no one really knows which two teams will make the finals.  Salary caps and and some advances in officiating are beginning to create democracy on ice. The NHL and junior hockey have some way to go yet though in making the game safe for its everyday players. Like the union guys say, Safety first!

Unfortunately the same cannot be said about our dysfunctional electoral system, But that's another story where concentration of political power and wealth go hand-in-hand. There will be no easy path to "league parity" and fairness in Canadian politics soon. Canadians will have to fight like hell for it like anything else that's worthwhile in this world.

I like that idea, an electoral system that serves the interests of the fan base and not dynastic rule by a few. If FPTP is a hockey league, then red and blue teams, and vice versa, have owned the championship bragging rights for 142 years non-stop. They need some good marketing people to put some excitement into that game. BOR-ing! Ottawa needs to explore "other markets" in democracy for sure. They've got to try and sell the game, and pro democracy groups are willing to help them do it.

I'd like to see how long the Red and Blue dynasty would last if they had to campaign without a penny of corporate money.

I just heard on the news that "Faith Night" took place last night.  Apparently the Blades have been doing this for years.

The NHL's revised protocol for concussions took effect just over 48 hours after being announced by commissioner Gary Bettman.

A new standard of testing was instituted starting with Wednesday's games, according to Nashville Predators general manager David Poile. After the league's GM meetings wrapped up, he elaborated on details of the protocol change announced earlier in the week for players displaying concussion-like symptoms.

"They've got to go into the dressing room to be with your doctor and your trainer and they go over all the criteria," said Poile. "There's a test they're going to have to perform and give them a little bit of time to make sure they get to their senses and they're ready and willing to come back."

Until now, trainers had been able to conduct a quick test with players on the bench. Another wrinkle in the new standard is a requirement for the process to be conducted without any urgency.

"You take a 15-minute timeout - that's a huge change," said Poile. "That's a very caring change to make sure that we're right."

I can see it all now.  Yup, he's had his bell rung alright. And they'll add another smiley face sticker to the guy's helmet because they care.

I guess they'll just squirt his noodle with novocaine and send him back in. Patch is too young for his brain to be hamburger so soon apparently.  We can all go back to being unconcerned about head shots in hockey, Habs fans included. I guess.

Close the thread down. We're alright, Jack, keep your dirty hits off our team only.

The general consensus is that Matt Cooke got what he deserved.

After weeks of talking about the importance of taking headshots and cheapshots out of the game, the NHL acted swiftly - and correctly - when they suspended the Pittsburgh Penguins winger for the final 10 games of the regular season and the first round of the playoffs.

Violent incident doesn't involve a Canadiens player - end of civilization not predicted by Habs fans

I got 2 words for you...I don't think I need to print them.

Then stop talking about it and do something about it.

Shut hockey down completely for 5 or 10 years or more, as Canadian males are not responsible, or mature enough, to handle their responsibilities, in an appropriate manner.

Sure, there are groupies that follow them around, but that is no excuse whatsoever for abuse.
