Ford's expenses suspiciously low, woman says

That would be me. And that would be me in the comments section, responding to the messaging that's become so familiar these days.

Affidavit regarding Mayor Rob Ford's 2011 first quarter office expense reporting: submitted by Jude MacDonald July 7, 2011

That would be my affidavit, with helpful links.

"Respect the Taxpayer"

That's a poster I created about my mom's long-term care residence. It's one of ten run by the City of Toronto. Now, nine of those ten are threatened with privatization or closure.

We can list all of the things that are happening. All of the things that are going to happen. I am more interested in exploring responses to it.

That made an appearance at City Hall this week, too. I can't get the image link to work for me - basically ever.

Ford's Consultants: Miller was Right.

Quote:

[T]he conclusions drawn by the consultants hired by Rob Ford are the same as the talking points of Rob Ford’s opponents: that there is very little inefficiency in Toronto’s government (KPMG says 96% per cent of services in Public Works—the area covered by this phase of the report—are required) and that finding savings for taxpayers will require cutting services.

Quote:
The report does not recommend any cuts, rather it identifies places where cuts might be possible without violating provincial law or abandoning the basic necessities of municipal life. So: we could save money by spending less on cycling infrastructure. We could save money by not fluoridating the water. We could save money by reducing the level of street cleaning or the level of snow removal. All these and more are contained in the report. We could save money by eliminating the green bin program. These items do not necessarily look like waste. The possibilities discussed have nothing to do with efficiency.

The risks of each possibility are noted (for example, KPMG notes the “High” risk of an epidemic of tooth decay that would flow from the “Low” savings of stopping fluoridation). Virtually all of the possibilities will generate a “Low” level of savings, according to the report.

Sineed

Thanks for this, writer! During Ford's campaign, I was one of the timorous voices pointing out that Ford's submission of zero expenses for his counsellor office made it impossible to know how much he actually did spend, and also made him unaccountable.

Interesting article in this wk's NOW, pointing out how team Ford tried to spin the KPMG report by leaking the buy-out plan of city workers at the same time, circumventing the city manager whose job it was to make the formal announcement to city employees.

Thanks, Sineed. In other news about activism during the Ford regime: Activist claims Doug Ford bullied him.
